At Meliora Dental, we know that feeling confident in your smile matters. Whether you're concerned about crowded or crooked teeth, your bite, or simply want a straighter smile, we'll start by understanding what you'd like to change and assessing your individual needs.

We provide clear aligners offering a discreet and convenient way to straighten your teeth without traditional fixed braces. A series of custom-made, removable aligners gradually moves your teeth towards their planned position, with treatment carefully planned and monitored by our dental team.

What Is Teeth Straightening?

Teeth straightening is about more than creating a more even smile. Treatment can improve the position of individual teeth and, where appropriate, how your upper and lower teeth meet. Better alignment can also make it easier to keep your teeth clean and support good oral function.

Every smile is different, so your treatment begins with a thorough assessment. Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums, assess your bite and talk to you about what you’d like to achieve. This allows us to create a treatment plan based on your individual needs and the movements required.

Your Clear Aligner Treatment

Your aligners are custom-made to fit closely over your teeth and apply gentle, controlled pressure to gradually move them towards their planned positions. You’ll progress through a series of aligners, typically changing to the next set every one to two weeks, as advised by your dentist.

Digital scans of your teeth are used to create a detailed 3D treatment plan, allowing your dentist to carefully plan the movements needed throughout your treatment.

Treatment time varies depending on your individual needs and the complexity of the movements required. Wearing your aligners consistently — usually for 20–22 hours a day — is important in helping your treatment progress as planned.

Keeping Your New Smile in Place

Once your teeth have reached their planned positions, the final stage is helping them stay there. Teeth naturally have a tendency to move over time, which is why retainers are an important part of maintaining your result.

Your dentist will recommend a personalised retention plan and provide a custom retainer to help keep your teeth in their new positions. Wearing your retainer as advised will help protect the result of your treatment for the long term.

What Can Clear Aligners Help With?

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth occur when there is not enough space for your teeth to fit properly. This can make brushing and flossing more difficult, allowing plaque, tartar and bacteria to build up. Over time, crowded teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems.

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth are spaces between two or more teeth. Food can become trapped in these areas, making your gums feel tender or sore. Larger or widening gaps may also make cleaning more difficult and can sometimes be linked to gum problems, including gum disease, depending on the cause.

Open Bite

An open bite occurs when your upper and lower teeth do not meet when you close your mouth. This can make biting and chewing certain foods more difficult. Depending on the cause and severity, an open bite may also affect speech, tooth function and the way pressure is placed on your teeth.‍

Underbite

An underbite occurs when your lower front teeth sit in front of your upper front teeth when you close your mouth. It can sometimes be related to the position of the lower jaw. Depending on its severity, an underbite may affect chewing, speech and how your teeth meet and wear.

Overbite

An overbite occurs when your upper front teeth overlap your lower front teeth. A small amount of overlap is normal, but a deeper overbite can sometimes affect your bite. In more pronounced cases, it may contribute to tooth wear, discomfort or other problems affecting how your teeth and jaw function.‍

Crossbite

A crossbite occurs when one or more upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth when you close your mouth. If left untreated, a crossbite can contribute to uneven tooth wear, chipping or gum recession. Depending on its severity, it may also affect your bite and how your teeth function.
