As your teeth live in each individual socket within the gums, they need a healthy environment to exist.
Treatment Guide:
(NB: Treatment plan may vary for more complex cases.)
Treatment Time: 30-60 minutes (depending on if Airflow® is included).
Anaesthetic: If desired by nervous patients/patients with sensitive teeth.
Key Benefit: Lowers the risk of gum disease/removes unsightly biofilm/freshens breath.
Post-Treatment Care: Patient-specific.
Longevity: Follow-up appointments required every 6-12 months.
With good oral hygiene, your teeth stand a better chance of providing the functions you need them to, including chewing and smiling. Upkeeping your gum health will prevent problems like gum pockets from forming, which can otherwise lead to loose and failing teeth.
Remove –During your hygienist appointment, your teeth and gumline will be carefully cleaned to ensure no biofilm (plaque and tartar) remains. For an enhanced clean, we can also offer the innovative Airflow® polishing method, which removes thicker amounts of biofilm and that which has settled in the hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.
Inform –Once we understand the catalyst for your gum-related problems and symptoms, we can offer guidance on the how and the why that has led to early or advanced signs of gum disease.
Prevent –We may suggest using fluoride toothpaste, or a toothpaste designed for your specific needs (enamel loss or bleeding gums, for example). During your examination, we can identify the areas of your diet and lifestyle that might be causing problems with your gum health.
Anyone can benefit from a supplementary clean with Airflow® polishing – it’s a gentle method of removing more extensive staining in your mouth. Patients who have tight gaps and crowding are especially vulnerable to plaque and tartar, as their tooth alignment can make it hard to floss and remove trapped bacteria. This makes them great candidates for Airflow®, as well as smokers, who tend to have more significant buildup of plaque and tartar, particularly on the tongue side of their lower teeth.
Yes. Dentists and hygienists address different concerns with your oral health. You should visit your dentist and hygienist at least once a year. Patients with high risk factors for gum disease may need to attend more often.
The cost of hygienist appointments is variable depending on the hygiene package you select. Please view our price list here.
